Common Home Moisture Problems & How to Stop Them

December 25, 2014 | Blog

Our Coastal Bend climate can lead to home moisture problems if you don’t know what to look out for. Excess moisture can cause black mold, which is hazardous to your health and can lead to serious respiratory problems.

Aside from health issues, moisture can also be very damaging to your home, furniture and energy bills. The following tips will help you identify common moisture problems and how to stop them.

  • Water can build up in water pipes and toilet tanks. Excess humidity causes condensation, which can run off water pipes and toilet tanks, onto and possibly under your flooring. Not only can this cause mold and mildew, it can also rot out your sub floor. To keep this from occurring, insulate your water pipes and install an insulation kit your toilet tank.
  • The air in your home feels heavy and damp. That uncomfortable clammy feeling is due to high humidity levels in your home. Depending on the weather, you may be able to see condensation on your windows. The best way to stop condensation is to check your home thoroughly for air leaks and insulate or caulk as required to stop hot, damp air from entering your home.
  • Your home gets extra humid when you cook or shower. Since both cooking and showering can release moisture and heat into the air, ventilation is required to draw heavy air out of your home. Always use your range hood when cooking and use a fan or open a window when showering.
  • Wooden furniture is misshapen and wood floors are uneven. This often happens when home humidity rises above 60 percent. In such cases, invest in a dehumidifier to keep the moisture level down.

Great Company

Great company. Contacted my current AC company to check on my warranty before charging me anything. Saved me a bunch of money and headache if dealing with anything. Would definitely recommend them and use them again.
