What Certifications Should You Look for When Hiring an HVAC Contractor?

What Certifications Should You Look for When Hiring an HVAC Contractor?Your HVAC contractor is an important part of the team that keeps your home running smoothly. Heating and cooling systems require annual maintenance to stay in top condition. Make sure you’re turning your appliances over to a qualified professional by looking for the proper qualifications.

Contractor License

Every state has its own requirements for HVAC contractor certifications. In the state of Texas, these professionals must have an Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Contractor license. This is the first thing you should ask for, as no HVAC contractor can legally operate without it.

EPA 608 Certification

Any contractor who works with a system using refrigerant is required by law to have EPA 608 certification. It’s rare to find an HVAC contractor without this certification, but it’s worth asking to make sure you’re working with someone who knows what they’re doing.

NATE Certification

The North American Technician Excellence (NATE) certification is not a legal requirement for an HVAC technician to operate, but it is a widely recognized certification that indicates high-quality performance. The best technicians will go out of their way to obtain this certification.
