Repair Or Replace Your A/C? Here's How To Decide

September 13, 2012 | Blog

Few things are quite as frustrating as a poorly performing A/C – especially in the Coastal Bend where muggy summer heat can last well into November. As the heat and humidity swells during the season’s dog days, you may find yourself wondering if it’s time to replace your old rattletrap of an air conditioner with something more efficient. However, in some cases, investing in an entirely new system may be unnecessary. Here are a few ways to decide whether it’s time to repair or replace:

Age – How old is your air conditioner? If it’s more than a decade old, it’s likely more cost effective to invest in a new cooling system. Although your old unit may be able to be repaired, it will only be a matter of time before it needs additional repairs. Also, older units are much less energy efficient, costing you unnecessary dollars every month when the electric bills arrives.

Temperature inconsistencies – People are quick to blame temperature irregularities on a failing A/C, but this is not always the case. While replacing the unit may help to solve some of the problem, you may only need ductwork repairs, an airflow adjustment or additional insulation in the warm area.

Humidity – Does you home feel especially humid this summer? A properly functioning A/C should be pulling humidity out of the air as it cools your home. However, if the parts are not correctly installed, or your home has an oversized system, even a brand new air conditioner may fail to keep the humidity level in your home under control.  For additional humidity control install The AC-Enhancer.

Energy bills – We all know that power companies charge higher rates during the hottest and coldest months of the year. However, as air conditioners age, they become less energy efficient and the utility bill increase can be even more substantial. Upgrading to a high-efficiency air conditioner, if you have an older system, will eventually pay for itself in lower energy costs.

Great Company

Great company. Contacted my current AC company to check on my warranty before charging me anything. Saved me a bunch of money and headache if dealing with anything. Would definitely recommend them and use them again.
