How Long Should You Wait Before Having Your HVAC Unit Checked?

January 7, 2020 | Blog

How long should you allow your HVAC system to go between maintenance visits? Well, it depends. Some homeowners go for years and maybe just call for help when something goes wrong. But that can be risky, resulting in large repair costs.

Catch Problems Before They Become Costly

We recommend our customers get HVAC maintenance twice a year: in the spring and the fall. The reason? Because when you have your equipment regularly inspected, you’re more apt to find potential problems before they turn into major repairs.

Also, preventative maintenance can keep your equipment running efficiently so that it loses less energy in summer or winter.

Get Faster Service

You can always wait until you need a repair, but that can be a hassle if you’re in the worst of summer or winter. Our summers, as you’re probably aware, are not pleasant without air conditioning. If you don’t have a regular maintenance contract with an HVAC company, you may have to wait for several days in the height of the cooling or heating season to get service. So, regular maintenance can pay off in more ways than one.

Scheduling Maintenance

Some things must be done regularly and often, such as changing your air filter. Be sure that if you have an inexpensive fiberglass filter you change it monthly; for a denser filter, change it every three months, or more often if needed. If you can’t do it yourself, schedule maintenance visits with your HVAC company.

The following parts of your HVAC system should be attended to at least once a year, and in some cases (high humidity and if the system is run continuously) more often:

  • Condensate drain. The condensate drain is where the excess humidity from the home goes. Sometimes the drain gets obstructed and needs to be cleaned out each year.
  • Burners. Burners should be inspected and perhaps cleaned every year to make sure the flame burns properly.
  • Refrigerant. Refrigerant levels should be checked every year and filled if needed.
  • Coils. Condenser and evaporator coils should be inspected and cleaned every year.

Great Company

Great company. Contacted my current AC company to check on my warranty before charging me anything. Saved me a bunch of money and headache if dealing with anything. Would definitely recommend them and use them again.
