Hiring an HVAC contractor for your Coastal Bend home can be nerve-wracking. You may wonder how you can find someone who will perform quality work and in whom you can trust. Always remember, when hiring an HVAC contractor, find a company that has the credentials trifecta: licensed, insured, and experienced.
Contractor Licensing
In Texas as in most states and municipalities, contractors are required to obtain licenses. These licenses or registrations let homeowners know that certain contractors meet the minimum requirements required where they work. Having a contractor’s license may also be required when obtaining permits, which are necessary for certain types of work. If installing a new A/C requires a permit and your contractor fails to obtain one because he or she is unlicensed, this can cause an issue for you if the building inspector finds out. Always be sure that your contractor holds the proper licenses or registrations required for your area.
Insurance
Many states and cities require that a contractor be insured as well before they will issue a license or registration. These are the two types of insurances that are required to be held:
- Liability insurance – in case of property damage or injury caused by the contractors work
- Worker’s Compensation insurance – to protect the contractor’s employees in case of injury or death, regardless of who was at fault.
Experienced
Make sure the contractor you do business with has the experience and expertise to take care of your Air Conditioning and Heating needs. Look for a company that has been in business under the same owner for many years to make sure they will be there when you need them in the future.
